Aboriginal Shield , circa 1900 Ex Robert Kroll, Oceanic Art Society, Australia
Beautifully carved shield, featuring diagonal and linear patterns, featuring a piercing through the shield. Red ochre pigment. Old varnish on the back which was a procedure common with Collectors and Museums in the 18th/ 19th Century. Some chipping to edges as visible expected on an old used shield. The piercing probably happened during a skirmish, perhaps even a bullet.
