A Rare Jupna Valley Barkcloth Fragment, Early 20th Century.

A segment of a double sided loincloth worn by men singing their own Konggap a Ceremonial Dance known as Nsaguo Konggap. The men sing and dance late into the night until the presence of their ancestors becomes felt. The making of the design disallows any intersection of the black or red pigments , the colours associated with a dual world order.
Jupna River Valley , Finisterre Mountains, Huon Gulf, Papua New Guinea.
