A lovely old pudding knife, Late 19th Century. Length 39.5cm, beautiful smooth red brown patina,signs on use and encrustation
Collected by Captain Guenet in the early 1950's on the French administrative vessel ' Le Rocinante'.

Michoutouchkine started collecting Melanesian and Polynesian Art around 1957, setting up galleries and exhibitions in the area including Noumea and Port Vila.
He worked closely with Alois Pelioko, taking part of their collection on a world tour in 1967. Nearly a thousand items were exhibited in Europe, where for almost 40 years, the pair organised numerous exhibitions attrcting about 25 million visitors in more than 40 countries, They sought only to demonstrate the dignity and creativity of the Pacific Islanders' Art, have no aim for financial gain, setting up the Michoutouchkine- Pelioko Foundation.
Nicolai Michoutouchkine passed away at 80 in Noumea, 2010.
