A Ceremonial Tiwi Spear , Bathurts / Melville Islands , Australia. Early to Mid 20th Century

These Ceremonial spears were carried during Tiwi funeral ceremonies known as Pukamani. Featuring stylised designs in red, yellow, black and white ochre , a pointed tip running into carved barbs on one side ending in a simply carved end . These spears were assigned genders. This is a Male Gender style named 'tunkalinta tunkaringa' .
